Member Spotlight: Paul Miller, TTA Legislative Counsel

Professional

  1. How long have you been a member of TTA? I have represented TTA since 2010

  2. What’s your favorite part of being a member of TTA? I really love the members. Over the years I have gotten to know so many of them on a personal level and they are not only incredible businesspeople, but just solid people. TTA members have treated me like family over the years and I have appreciated that.

  3. What do you love most about the transportation industry? The role it plays in our economy. Most people don’t realize the impact not having this industry operating would have on the global economy.

  4. How do you define success? For me there are a lot of things that define success. Part of it is making what some deem impossible possible. Part of it is getting the issue signed into law to help benefit our members. Part of it is simply educating people on the issue and bringing it into a conversation so that potential or future action can be taken.

  5. Who inspires you? People who take a risk at success or doing great things. I get inspired by stories of people doing things for others, even when they don’t have much themselves. Hard work, dedication, and passion inspire me.

  6. If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose and why? I have one no one will know. When I first started out, I was lucky enough to meet a guy named Tom Susman who was senior in our profession and partner in his firm, yet he always treated me as an equal and coached me along my career.  Today I still look to Tom for advice and the great thing is he will now ask me the same. That is an incredible feeling.

Personal

  1. What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know? As part of a graduation requirement in college I needed to take a speech class. I was mortified of speaking in public, so I took the night class. I hated public speaking and got really nervous. Hard to believe given today I love to talk in front of groups.

  2. What’s the last book you read? I love reading Vince Flynn novels

  3. What is your favorite hobby? Coaching basketball – been coaching for over 25 years now at all levels.

  4. What’s the next place on your travel bucket list? African safari

  5. Are you currently binge-watching any shows? At times – Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, Bosch

  6. If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? Not sure, but it would have to come with a Mountain Dew.
