How long have you been a member of TTA? Paratransit Insurance Company’s relationship with the TTA goes back many decades, but I personally have been attending TTA events since 2012.
Why did you join TTA? Paratransit Insurance Company provides auto liability insurance only to transportation companies – it is the single industry that we focus on. The TTA provides valuable support to our member insureds turning this industry into a community. If it is important to our members, it is important to us!
What’s your favorite part of being a member of TTA? The annual Mobilize convention each fall. I enjoy seeing not just our current members but many other operators that are not current members, but we have met over the years. We are spread across 35 states so any opportunity to see the industry face to face is time well spent.
What city are you located in and what is the size of your fleet? We are not an operator but provide auto liability to fleets with at least 50 units and currently write in 35 states. We are headquartered in Memphis, TN.
What type of service does your company provide? We are a Tennessee-domiciled risk retention group that writes auto liability only to transportation companies.
What do you love most about the transportation industry? Many of the smartest and most astute businesspeople I have ever been around work in the transportation industry. There are some incredible business minds in this industry, and it is a joy to watch them build and grow their companies.
How do you define success? Helping our customers achieve their goals.
Who inspires you? My wife and her ability to keep the entire family on track.
If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose and why? My dad (and business partner) has been an incredible mentor to me – his experience and knowledge in the insurance industry knows no bounds.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter the transportation industry? I personally believe that the larger you can scale your business in this industry the better the opportunities will be, but to reach that point of critical mass you have to build with quality. Choose your business partners and vendors well and focus on quality, even if quality might not be the cheapest option.
What’s one thing — either industry-related or not — you learned in the last month? Gosh, in this industry I must learn a hundred new things every day, so it is hard to narrow it down. Outside of this industry, my son informed me this weekend that the largest tire manufacturer in the world is Lego (albeit very small tires). I had to look it up to confirm but it is true.
Personal
