Overview: Access to wheelchair transportation services in local markets are a challenge, making it difficult for patients to access therapy sessions. The objective is to bring stakeholders together to share the perspectives involved, rehab facilities and transportation providers to better understand the challenges and situations. Through this panel discussion, the discussion help understand and possibly spark ideas to take back.

Despite securement equipment that is better designed and more rigorously tested than ever before, safely transporting passengers using wheelchairs is more difficult than most transportation providers realize. This presentation will explore these challenges and offer examples of the best practices that can reduce a provider’s liability and enhance passenger safety.

This session will explore the types of wheeled mobility devices one may encounter. How to prevent damaging equipment while preparing for transport. The differences between transport and transit approved devices. And what types of positioning components on the wheelchair are required, in addition to what may be desirable, to maintain the safety and comfort of the passengers.
