Spring Conference & Expo Is Canceled Due to Coronavirus Pandemic

(ROCKVILLE, Md.)—After careful consideration and a review of the latest information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, The Transportation Alliance has decided to cancel its Spring Conference & Expo, which was scheduled for March 18-20 in Boston, Massachusetts.

This was expected to be The Transportation Alliance’s largest Spring Conference & Expo in three years. This difficult decision took into account the latest events, including: The Massachusetts governor has declared a state of emergency; the US Centers for Disease Control has advised against certain travel and large gatherings; and the World Health Organization has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

While disappointed not to see everyone in Boston, President Tom Arrighi’s top priority in this evolving situation focused on the safety of the event attendees and exhibiting vendors. The association is exploring options to move some of the educational sessions from the conference online.

“The Transportation Alliance has always advocated for safety and with the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the safety of our membership is no exception,” Arrighi said. “It is extremely unfortunate it had to come to this but ultimately it was the right call. We are currently looking at all options to host a ‘virtual conference’ and will update our membership and the conference registrants as soon as we develop our new plan.”

The decision to cancel the conference is unusual although not without precedent: The last time The Transportation Alliance canceled a conference was in 1917 due to gas rations during World War I.

The transportation industry remains vital lifeline to millions of people in this challenging moment. It is in the best interest of public health, the health of our members, and the health of our industry that our members continue to serve their communities with professional, safe and reliable transportation.
